Keep your WordPress site safe from Brute Force Attacks

WordPress is a well known web publishing platform that used to generate free blog sites and easily manage your website contents. This platform has become trendy due to its easy-to-navigate interface and allows you to change how your website looks in an instant. No wonder why millions of people have subscribed to this WordPress site. However, one of the downsides of becoming a giant in the industry of technology is being prone to hacks and system bugs which you should have knowledge of.

Brute Force Attacks

This attack is the simplest method used to gain access to someone else’s site. This attack can simply be performed by an individual but, for serious hackers, Brute Force Attacks are performed by robots in automation. To further elaborate, the Brute Force attack is done by consecutively trying a username and password until it gets the right one. Because WordPress site is secured, a hacker tries to enter the system by hacking its members’ username and passwords instead because it seems to be the easiest way to break in.

Protect yourself from Brute Force Attackers

The weakness of the WordPress site relies on the members who can be easily targeted by hackers. These members are those who retain their passwords as ‘ABCDEF123’ or ‘123456AAA’. Once it gets in, it overloads the server’s memory by exponentially increasing its views until the server breaks down. Thus, one form to keep away this Brute Force attack is to increase the variability of your password. Use a mix of special characters, numbers, letters and capitalization if possible. Avoid using a very short password as this can be easily decoded. It will be nice to maximize the available characters given for creating passwords. Also remember to password protect your WP-Log in. This will create an extra barrier for your server. Increase your security, especially by limiting your WP-admin access to yourself. Lastly, it is safe to block IP addresses from certain countries you suspect of having any malicious conducts. Just keep in mind that blocking certain IP addresses increases the risk of losing subscribers from that specific country.
